Volunteer Trainer - Pathways to Settlement

About the role – Kōrero mō te tūranga

We have an exciting opportunity in our Pathways to Settlement programme for a person experienced in working with and training volunteers. The position covers Palmerston North and Levin and the candidate can be based in either location.

The Volunteer Trainer ensures that volunteers are well trained and have the capability and knowledge to meet the requirements of their placement with a former refugee family / individual or other vulnerable migrants.  Trainers are responsible for the preparation, implementation and monitoring of training and for ensuring that all participants meet the required standards.  Trainers also work closely with the wider team to recruit volunteers. Trainers will work together with the national Team Leader Volunteer Programme to maintain and review and evaluate the training programme.

The Volunteer Trainer is part of the Pathways to Settlement Teams in Palmerston North and Levin and the national trainer team. The role contributes to development of volunteering within Red Cross, working with the wider Red Cross team involved in volunteer recruitment and support to ensure all NZRC volunteer development reflects best practice. 

In this role you will: 

  • Organise and deliver volunteer training;
  • Lead the vetting and recruitment of volunteers;
  • Contribute to the national volunteer team working teams;
  • Contribute to public awareness, networking and partnership opportunities.

To be successful you will have: 

  • A tertiary education in a relevant field;
  • Experience delivering training or with group facilitation;
  • Proven successful experience working with volunteers;
  • Knowledge and understanding of refugee settlement in NZ, or other relevant cross cultural experience;
  • A commitment to the Fundamental principles of the International Red Cross Movement.
