Part time – 30 hours per week

This is a fixed term role until 30 June 2026; however, it is contingent on funding being secured from the Ministry of Social Development. If this funding is not obtained, the fixed term will end on 30 September 2025.

About the role – Kōrero mō te tūranga 

We have an exciting opportunity for an Employer Assessor/Advisor in our Pathways to Employment Programme working in Wellington.

The purpose of this role is to carry out in depth, client-centred career and employment assessments for individual clients in order to create a tailored employment plan with recommendations and timeframes. The Assessor/Advisor carries out English language assessments to feed into the employment plan.  You will also be required to maintain existing relationships with our local and regional language providers.

As part of this role, you will be required to be part of a team coordinating and supporting employment orientation, training workshops and development of former refugees’ knowledge, to successfully enter the New Zealand workforce.

The role also includes intensive, individualised work with both refugee background clients and potential employers, to create sustainable employment outcomes for clients and employers across the region.

Who are we looking for? – Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? 

To be successful you will have: 

  • Sound knowledge of refugee settlement issues, NZ employment sectors, and the language and skills requirements for NZ tertiary study.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field, with desirable qualifications in language teaching or applied linguistics, and membership in professional bodies, such as CDANZ or TESOLANZ.
  • Proven experience in second language teaching to adults, assessing language competencies, and evaluating work readiness.
  • Ability to guide career planning and support clients through job search and employment preparation.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and intercultural communication skills, including active listening and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Strong IT skills, strategic thinking, initiative, time management, and the ability to work independently and take responsibility for professional development.
